My Daughter and I Review “The Marvels”

My family enjoyed seeing The Marvels, and my 17-year-old daughter and I chatted about it quite a bit afterward. In the vein of our previous posts here, where we together reviewed the film She Said and then NBC correspondent Ali Vitali’s book Electable, here’s a transcripted rendition of our convo, edited for length and clarity. I’m FAD (Feminist Asian Dad) and my daughter is denoted by JJ for the Chinese term for big sister, 姐姐 (Pinyin: jiĕ jie). Be warned, major spoilers ahead.

I felt like I was letting down my fellow advocates in the massively important spaces of women’s rights work and relationship and sexual violence prevention. Preparing for Hurricane Hilary

I’m a math teacher, not a meteorologist. But growing up on the Texas Gulf Coast, I experienced several hurricanes and tropical storms, so I thought it might help some of my SoCal friends to hear how I’m preparing for what is currently Hurricane Hilary. I say “currently” because most weather forecasters anticipate the storm will weaken a lot before it arrives in California in earnest, likely creating only tropical storm conditions instead of hurricane conditions in Southern California.
